Steve received his formal education from the University of Idaho in electrical engineering and a degree in audio engineering from Belmont University in Nashville Tennessee. His formal education gives him the technical foundation of a professional audio engineer, but this is only a small part of his experience and passion that led him to open Sage Audio.
Engineering music has been ingrained into Steve’s life since the late 90’s. And now, he’s spent almost two decades striving for knowledge and experience; pursuing excellence in audio fidelity. “High-quality mastering starts with knowledge, grows with experience, and compounds with wisdom.”
Early in Steve’s career he found a deep passion for audio acoustics, physics, and electronics; and began offering engineering services in recording, mixing, and acoustic design. He soon found that the detail-oriented adjustments that can be achieved with specialized equipment was thrilling, and this fueled his passion for mastering. As a small operation in northern Idaho - home town of Moscow Idaho; he quickly realized the need to move to a town with more musical influence. He choose, Music City - Nashville Tennessee.
Arriving in Nashville he found a large discrepancy in quality when comparing emerging artist’s recordings to established record labels. Many of these emerging artists had great music, but were in need of mastering - at a price they could afford. So Steve began offering high-quality mastering at a lower price and soon found mounting request to balance and perfect artist’s music. In response to these requests he began pursuing a vision to offer the highest-quality mastering at a price that every artist could afford, that vision became Sage Audio.
As Steve continued building a reputation for crafting high-quality masters. He became in-demand by a diverse array of artists; ranging from, country singer Meghan Linsey of Steel Magnolia and The Voice, Christian artist Da’ T.R.U.T.H, to Pop artist Futuristic. These are just a few of the many artists Steve has worked with.
By 2011 Steve started to become overwhelmed with booked sessions and felt it was time to train a talented engineer to help meet the growing requests. He found Drew Thomas, a talented musician and engineer, ambitious to learn specialized techniques and a natural ear for detail. Steve enthusiastically took him under his guidance and worked closely with him for 5 years. Now Drew is integral part of Sage Audio with a unique set of skills that continue to advance Sage Audio. “Drew has the experience, ability, and ear to design uniquely specialized masters.
